What is PMEGP Scheme 2023?

The PMEGP scheme, also known as the PRIME MINISTER’S EMPLOYMENT GENERATION PROGRAMME, is run by the Central Government.

It provides loans of between 10 lakh and 25 lakh to citizens to start their own employment and also offers subsidies on the loan amount. If you are interested in applying for the scheme, this article will guide you on how to do so.

Prime Minister

To be eligible for the PMEGP Loan Scheme 2023, applicants must be over 18 years of age and looking to start their own employment. Institutions registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 are also eligible for assistance.

Additionally, those who take a loan under the PMEGP Yojana 2023 will receive subsidies on the loan amount based on their category. For more information on the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Loan Yojana, please visit the official website.

Extension of PMEGP scheme by the government

The government has announced an extension of the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program until the 2025-26 financial year, with a budget allocation of Rs 13554.42 crore.

This was announced on May 30, 2022, and is expected to create employment opportunities for approximately 40 lakh citizens. According to the Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, the main objective of the scheme is to provide employment opportunities to the youth of the country through the establishment of micro-enterprises in the non-agricultural sector.

In addition to the extension, the Central Government has made some amendments to the scheme.

These include an increase in the maximum project cost for manufacturing units from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 50 lakh, and for service units from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh.

Additionally, transgender applicants will be placed in a special category and will be given additional subsidies.

The objective of Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program Scheme

The increasing population in the country has led to a corresponding increase in unemployment.

To address this issue, the Prime Minister has launched the PMEGP scheme, which aims to provide employment opportunities to all citizens and reduce unemployment in the country.

The scheme provides subsidies on loans based on the economic condition and class of citizens, to alleviate financial burden and improve their economic status through employment.

This scheme is particularly focused on addressing unemployment in both rural and urban areas, providing loans to unemployed citizens who wish to start their own businesses. By doing so, it aims to decrease the unemployment rate and empower citizens to become self-sufficient.

PMEGP Scheme Parameters

The parameters for the PMEGP scheme will be determined by the Central Government based on factors such as the backwardness of the state, state population, availability of traditional skills and raw materials, and unemployment within the state.

As per the scheme, 75 projects will be awarded in each district by the government. Furthermore, additional subsidies will be provided to women, SC, ST, OBC, physically disabled, and NER applicants. The scheme has been designed to be conducted entirely online, from application submission to funding disbursement.
